Well Friends, The Barbarian has been upsetting the apple cart of complacency yet again. As my friends know I spent years offending the right wing Christians with my views they considered leftist. Well, now I’m coming to the end of my PhD course work, I have the latitude to offend the complacent neo-Marxist lefties at my university. Just this past week I sent two professors into near epileptic fits when I challenged the beliefs that they thought all thoughtful people held. One (who is at least 15 years my junior) had the nerve to suggest I should think out things better (i.e. if I thought it out I’d see her silly belief was true. I like my Barbarian image. It represents the fact that my “heresies” stem from the fact that I firmly believe that nearly all people are barbarians at heart, taking advantage of those whom they can. When I taught world history (years ago), I taught my high school students that civilization is island in a sea of barbarism. That is true today as much as it ever has been.
